Clearly, we’re never done If what has happened with Ubisoft in these last hours is a clarification of principles that were already defined before, or if we are facing what has become popular to call a collection of cables, i.e. the correction of the previous action, after verifying the negative impact it had. We have reasons to choose either option, so in the end everything will be subject to the personal interpretation of each of them.
What am I talking about? Just a few days ago we told you that the answer provided by the official account of Ubisoft at Twitter X, indicated that the company had enforced the right to delete user accounts that remained inactive, even though their users have used them to buy games in the past companies. In other words, one could end up losing all their purchases if Ubisoft wanted to.
The controversy was not long in comingand it got even stronger when the Ubisoft account also confirmed on the social network that closing the account would also make it impossible to play their titles, even if they were purchased from other stores such as Steam. And this is how it has unfortunately become popular among developers and distributors, to access the games it is necessary to have the same user account, regardless of where and in what format they were purchased.
Now with a good part of the community player on fire, the time has come for clarification and according to what we can read in the VGC, Ubisoft says it won’t delete accounts that have purchased games, in addition to never deleting an account that has been inactive for less than four years. Something that undoubtedly generates peace of mind in the face of a scenario where we could be surprised to find out that our accounts with the acquired and associated games were lost forever.
However, and considering that the dispute started last week, It’s somewhat surprising that Ubisoft hasn’t responded yet, even though it would require an almost immediate response. Why did it take several days? If it was always clear that accounts associated with purchased games would not be deleted, wouldn’t an official statement within the first few hours be enough? I think so, and that means I’m not ruling out the cable collection theory after verifying that maintaining what everyone understood last week was the company’s official position until now.
