Fernando Villavicencio, Ecuadorian presidential candidate, was shot dead at the end of a political rally.

The politician registered head injuries and was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The video, which is already circulating, shows that the attack was recorded as he got into a vehicle guarded by security personnel. Other videos show the chaos left by bullet explosions.

The first reports indicate that more than 50 ballistic elements were found in this place.

Galo Robalino, a campaigner, confirmed the killing in a live radio broadcast in which he expressed his frustration with the attack:

“Fernando Villavicencio just passed away (…) sons of bitches!”

The right-wing politician began his career as a trade union leader and journalist. He was legislative adviser to Clover Jiménez and both were sentenced to prison terms for insulting then-president Rafael Correa.

He was a fugitive until a crime was ordered and was later a member of Congress.

Villavicencio announced his political intentions after President Guillermo Lasso activated the death crusade to call presidential and congressional elections.
