Ecuadorian police have arrested six alleged members of a gang that killed presidential candidate Fernando Villa.

This afternoon it became known that during the operation they seized a rifle, 1 submachine gun, 4 pistols, 3 grenades, 4 boxes of ammunition, two motorcycles, 1 car and 2 rifle magazines.

The police confirmed that after a confrontation to repulse the attack on the candidate, the prosecution of the alleged criminal began and “the lawful use of force managed to neutralize him, a few hours later his death was confirmed, as a result of a shootout with agents of the “order”.

According to the first expert opinions, the attack was carried out with a pistol, which was fixed at the site of the attack, in addition to 61 9-mm percussion guns and three 223-caliber guns.

A US FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) delegation will arrive in Ecuador in the next few hours to support an investigation into the murder of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio, who was the victim of an attack by alleged hitmen as he left a campaign rally in Quito on Wednesday afternoon.

The FBI’s arrival in Ecuador was confirmed on social media this Thursday by Ecuadorian conservative President Guillermo Lasso, who indicated he had requested U.S. support from the federal investigation agency to investigate the crime.

After Villavicencio’s murder became known, the United States government offered “urgent investigation assistance” to the Ecuadorian executive through its ambassador to Quito, Michael J. Fitzpatrick.

This involvement of the FBI in the murder investigation is part of the close relationship that the US and Ecuador have built over the past two years, especially since Lasso came to power, with cooperation on issues including security.
