Meta is revolutionizing WhatsApp this 2023. The messaging app has traditionally lagged behind alternatives like Telegram in many ways, but there isn’t a month this year that we haven’t seen some major additions. For example, recently editing messages or

Now it wants to directly replace WhatsApp, Zoom and Google Meet. A few days ago Meta announced the screen sharing functionality we have in these apps alongside Skype or Teams and it goes one step further with scheduled calls.

Scheduled meetings, the big innovation of WhatsApp

It may sound an exaggeration to say that Meta has turned WhatsApp into a meeting app, but everything points to it. A few weeks ago, the app on Windows increased the number of participants in video calls. 32 attendees is a far cry from the 100 attendees in Google Meet, but it’s clear that Meta wants us to have WhatsApp with us if we need to hold a meeting.

A few days ago they supported the intention to sneak into offices and companies with the screen sharing functionality, now they are finishing up with the possibility to do so. schedule meetings in the form of a call or video call.

And as they discovered on WABetainfo, WhatsApp’s beta 2.23.17.7 includes an option to schedule calls. Currently, it’s a function for groups (which gives us more clues about the segment Meta is targeting) and there’s a new menu that lets you plan while doing a search.

We can put a name, specific date, time into the meeting and decide whether it is an audio call or a video call. A few minutes before the meeting, group members will receive a warning and only people in the same group can join. In other words, it seems that it will not be via links as in other applications.

Currently, it’s an option discovered in the Android beta, but it’s hoped that sooner or later it will reach the rest of the devices on which we found the app.

Choosing from other apps and services

goal at the end kind of WhatsApp super app. Not in the way Musk wanted to do with the X, but in terms of communication. Alongside the improvements in the quality of experience for users, this 2023 offers a variety of functions that point to a beneficial business environment for both large companies and small and medium-sized companies.

It was hard to get, but in April of this year multi-device support became a reality, allowing us to have the same number on personal and business mobiles. The option to send messages without adding a contact was recently enabled; this is ideal for sporadic chats and, as our colleagues at Xataka Android have already tried, WhatsApp is already very affordable.

This means we can have two WhatsApp accounts on the same phone without resorting to cheats, WhatsApp Web or cloning the app, a measure that can again be very interesting for those who have a business number and a personal number.

We’ll see how WhatsApp evolves over the next few months, but despite being known as an app with new features as of late, they’ve moved along this year.
