Name Sinaloa cartel reflected in one of the most recent disputes in Latin America: murder Of Fernando Villavicencio, candidate for the presidency of Ecuador.

Candidate’s death occurs in the context corruption and drug trafficking which covers the current Ecuadorian reality, considers Hector Sarasti, Colombian journalist.

“The crime may be related to his (Villavicencio) dementia in attacking power groups associated with the state and crime,” he explained in Aristegui Live.

Now a delegation from the US FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) has arrived in Ecuador to support candidate assassination investigation presidential.

It was the same president of Ecuador, a conservative William Lasso, who turned to the US for the support of the US agency to clarify this crime.

The request for support came after Lasso ruled national emergency for 60 days.

“The armed forces are mobilized throughout the country to guarantee the safety of citizens, peace in the country, free and democratic elections on 20 Augustas provided by the National Electoral Council (CNE),” the president said after an emergency meeting with the Security Cabinet.

Sarasti believes that Villavicencio was a man of ideas who was not afraidand “telling things as they are.”

“His way of looking at things is killing him, condemn drug trafficking and corruption.

Three days after his assassination, Villavicencio spoke about A.Dolfo Macias, leader of the Los Choneros crime group.” which have connections with ethe Sinaloa cartel. “This leads to the conclusion that they may face murder,” he explains.

However, Sarasti claims that until the State becomes stronger, the situation with violence will remain the same or worsen.

“The fact that Ecuador suffers from a lack of a strong institutional structure, caused by the measures taken by Correas to dissolve the intelligence services, change prominent heads of the police and the army, means that it was a weak state in terms of being able to effectively counter the factors that breed violence,” — he explains.
