Windows Backup is a new internal application that Microsoft announced for Windows 11 23H2, a minor revision of the system, but it will have news like every update. It was thought that it would be exclusive to Windows 11, but in the end the company from Redmond also released for Windows 10. Both versions are in the testing phase on the Insider channel.
Backup jobs are essential in today’s world. There is so much data to keep and so many ways to end it (storage drive problems, software crashes, malware…) that creating backups should be part of every regular computer maintenance. They are mandatory in professional fields, they are also recommended in domestic ones, so as not to get upset.
The industry offers powerful commercial applications to perform these types of tasks, and all operating systems offer their own internal solutions. Windows revamped its tools in Windows 7, and its backup, recovery, and recovery tools are the same as—albeit with a different interface—continue to work in Windows 10/11.
Microsoft wants to make backup tasks easier with Windows Backup, a new app that makes it possible store files, folders, applications, credentials and settings. Microsoft is linking it to its own OneDrive cloud service, though we expect more output devices to be added later.
Windows Backup for Windows 10 was released in build 19045.3391 on the test channel used by Insider testers. The launch may come as a surprise given that Microsoft has warned that it will not release new features for the system, although it will officially support it until October 2025. The aim is, of course, to increase the customer base of Windows 11, which has been relatively lukewarm so far.
Rumor has it that this unexpected release is happening right now facilitate migration from Windows 10 to Windows 11. We’ll see how the final version eventually arrives, but an app that makes the important task of backup easier is always welcome.
At the moment we continue with Windows 10… In both cases, if you are interested in buying a Windows (or Office) license at the best price, you can get it here for only 12 euros.
