It’s been a while, but XPro (until recently known as TweetDeck) is now truly behind a paywall.
This happened back early last month via the support channel announced, but TweetDeck, recently renamed XPro, is now only available to verified, i.e. paying, X users. The deadline has been pushed back a bit, but thirty days is an eternity for the platform under Elon Musk anyway, and a lot can change in that time.
Tweetdeck was founded in 2008 as a small start-up in London. Back then, some social media, including Twitter, actually considered it a third-party application. That’s where they stumbled upon the increasingly popular app, and in 2011, the platform bought the app for forty million dollars.
Musk has made a few changes since acquiring Twitter. It’s a euphemism to say that not all of them were received with great acclaim. For example, TweetDeck recently transitioned to XPro and is now no longer free.
Social media guru Matt Navara was one of the people who made the discovery divided with his followers. XPro may now be available to anyone who chooses Blue, but this Pro is there for a reason.
The free app has always been popular with professionals because of TweetDeck’s ability to easily monitor multiple accounts at the same time. This also meant, for example, that you could schedule posts for different accounts from a single place. So it will be interesting to see how many professional accounts are now starting to pay for X to continue using these features.
It seems like every week X has a new announcement or feature. In terms of numbers, that could well be the average since Musk took over. Last week, the platform took the next step in expanding its activities: the company announced that it would soon be able to make video calls. Previously, the new version of Notes appeared, with Articles users will be able to publish texts the size of a whole book in the future.
