The Russian automatic interplanetary station “Luna-25” ceased to exist as a result of a collision with the surface of the moon.
As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by the press service of Roscosmos.
“According to the Luna-25 flight schedule on August 19, it was planned to release an impulse to establish its elliptical orbit before landing. Communication with “Luna-25″ was lost at around 14:57. Efforts to locate and communicate with the device on August 19 and 20 did not yield results. According to the results of the preliminary analysis, in connection with the deviation of the real parameters of the pulse from the calculated ones, the device entered an uncalculated orbit and ceased to exist as a result of a collision with the surface of the Moon, ” the agency said.
Roscosmos added that an interdepartmental commission will be created specifically to find out the reasons for the loss of “Luna-25”.
As reported by Ukrinform, Roscosmos announced yesterday that an extraordinary situation occurred during the transition of the Luna-25 automatic station into pre-landing orbit.
Automatic station “Luna-25” is the first lunar mission in the modern history of Russia. The previous station “Luna-24” was launched by the USSR in 1976. On August 19, “Luna-25” began to enter pre-landing orbit.
