Elon Musk shows Tesla’s new FSD live: it goes wrong

From its beginnings, One of Tesla’s differentiating factors compared to other manufacturers in the sector was its suite of autonomous driving technologies which integrates In this regard, and I’ve mentioned it several times, Elon Musk’s company was a pioneer and forced the rest of the industry to get its act together in this regard if it wanted to compete with a variant that was way ahead of them in time.

I’m speaking in the past tense, yes, because despite Musk’s grandiose statements in this regard his development was not as rapid as he had predicted. Recall that back in 2016, he stated that Tesla will reach level 5 autonomous driving (the highest that does not even require a steering wheel, pedals, etc. in the vehicle). Evidently 2018 came and none of it… and neither in 2019. But that’s okay, he promised it again at the beginning of 2021 by the end of that year, a statement that was amended shortly after by a corporate engineer and of course that wasn’t fulfilled either.

Summarize, At this point, almost September 2023, Tesla still offers Level 2 autonomy, while Germany’s Mercedes already has several Level 3 activation authorizations on both sides of the Atlantic. That doesn’t stop the billionaire from continuing to puff his chest and show off, even if it doesn’t always go well. So he wanted to show recently, in direct via X, how well your FSD (Full Self-Driving) software is working. And that thing, well, it didn’t go well:

It’s true, and I won’t deny it, that the car’s behavior is generally good, but that’s for nothing if, as we see around minute 19, Tesla’s FDS is about to trigger a red light, forcing Musk to intervene. On the other hand, we can also see that the car, when reaching a STOP sign, it interprets this as giving way without stopping completelyor something that Musk doesn’t seem to be paying attention to.

Of course, a billionaire at that very moment I really enjoyed showing Mark Zuckerberg’s personal address live. Because if we can agree on anything, it’s that revealing someone else’s data is not the same as revealing Musk’s. If someone does that to him, it’s doxxing and that justifies shutting down user accounts, journalists, services, etc. But if he’s the one doing it to other people, then it’s a funny joke and hahaha, we’re having a good time. Anyway…

I will return to Tesla and say again that technologically your proposal is interesting and that it was undoubtedly the company that started the revolution in this regard. For whatever reason (and removing the sensor probably has a lot to do with it), caused the company to lose its top position at this time… and that it probably won’t be long before we see it continue to be relegated to the lower ranks thanks to the advances of other manufacturers.
