In February, Apple announced a new system called Tap to Pay, which allows individuals to accept contactless payments using only their iPhone as a payment terminal. This feature is already used in the Apple fleet.
When Tap and Pay is enabled, the recipient simply inserts their NFC smartphone or debit card onto the receiving phone. This is how the contactless transaction will take place.
Apple stores are already testing this feature of the Apple Park Visitor Center. The new contactless payment feature requires no additional hardware. All you need is an iPhone XS or higher.
Currently, this feature is not available to consumers for businesses only through Shopify and Adyen commerce platforms. There is speculation that Tap to Pay will be powered by Apple Pay Cash in iOS 16, allowing iPhone owners to send money to each other simply by holding their phones close.
