Chinese police two people arrested for causing major damage to a section of the Great Wall of China opening a hole in its structure to allow heavy equipment to pass through, state television CCTV reported today.

The suspects, named Zheng and Wang, are two construction workers who, according to the police investigation, they used an excavator to dig a large hole in one section of the wall in the central province of Shanxi to facilitate the passage of their vehicles.

The incident took place on August 24 at a site called “32”, which is part of the Great Wall of China. built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). and that it owes its name to its status as the 32nd observation post located in Yuyu County.

The police received a statement on this fact and moved to the place where found evidence that the wall had been destroyed on a heavy car.

After tracking them down, the agents located the two suspects in a nearby town and took them to the police station for questioning, whereupon they admitted to damaging the structure “to avoid having to detour”.
