As noted, the test launch of a missile not equipped with a warhead was carried out on the night of September 6 from the Vandenberg base in the state of California.
The US Air Force Global Strike Command said the purpose of the intercontinental ballistic missile test launch program is to test the security, effectiveness and readiness of the weapon system.
Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder had previously announced the launch. He added that, in accordance with standard procedures, the United States notified the Russian government of the launch “in accordance with our bilateral obligations”.
As reported, the intercontinental ballistic missile Minuteman III, designed by the US Air Force for nuclear deterrence, has a flight range of approximately 10,000 km and a speed of 24,000 km/h.
