European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that measures should be developed to protect against risks associated with the development of artificial intelligence (AI) at the global level.
According to Ukrinform, he said this at the third session of the G20 summit held in New Delhi, India.
“As we mentioned before, artificial intelligence carries risks, but it also offers huge opportunities. The problem is how to use rapidly changing technologies. This shows that even AI developers and inventors are calling on political leaders to regulate AI. In 2020, the law “On Artificial Intelligence” was passed for the first time in the EU. We want to encourage innovation by building trust. But we need more. What the world does now will determine our future,” von der Leyen said.
According to him, Europe and partners should develop a new global platform that will protect against systemic and societal risks related to artificial intelligence and at the same time encourage investments in safe artificial intelligence systems.
“We will need a structure similar to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Challenges, where we also need to work with scientists, entrepreneurs and inventors. Von der Leyen said they need to provide information about the risks associated with artificial intelligence, as well as its potential benefits to humanity.”
According to Ukrinform, the European Parliament approved the project that will form the basis of the future law on the rules for regulating artificial intelligence.
