Samsung has announced pricing, availability and features for the 4TB SSD 990 Pro, the flagship model of its flash storage catalog for client computers, which will be available in October for 344 dollars.

Samsung is the world’s largest seller of SSD drives and waiting for you to jump into Gen5 (as already done, this 4TB 990 Pro SSD that was leaked last month is the most advanced from the brand for the consumer market. The manufacturer aims it at the most advanced computers, professional for content creation or playing video games.

4TB SSD 990 Pro, twice the capacity but the same interface

There is a maxim in computing that eventually holds true: no matter how much storage capacity you have, you will eventually fill it up. Imagine a simple game taking up 100 or 200 Tbytes. That’s what Samsung meant by doubling the capacity of its flagship line, which was originally launched at 2TB. Samsung says it has built the best NAND flash memory available, the eighth generation of the V-NAND series, which together with an improved controller (also made in-house) allows the unit to offer data transfers 7450 / 6900 MB/s in sequential read/write mode. The improvement in random performance over the previous models (980 PRO) is even greater, 55% higher, reaching up to 1,400,000 IOPS and 1,550,000 IOPS read and write.

As you will see in the images, the design corresponds to M.2 with the memories located on one side, which will allow it to be used even in ultraportable devices.

Perhaps the most notable of its features is the drastic improvement in energy efficiency of this SSD, up to 50% over the previous generation. Its degree of resistance has also increased and the manufacturer guarantees up to 2,400 Tbytes written about the 5-year warranty it offers.

It also supports full disk encryption 256-bit AES and TCG/Opal V2.0 and will introduce a new version of Magician 8.0 integrated control software, which will be released later this month for all of the brand’s SSDs. The 4TB SSD 990 Pro has an official price of $344.99 and will be available in October. Samsung will sell the variant with an integrated cooler for $10 more.
