Apple could revolutionize mobile gaming

Apple presented the series of its latest generation flagship iPhone 15. The Pro and Pro Max variants feature significant upgrades over previous models, including a titanium body, solid-state action button, A17 Pro Bionic processor based on 3nm process, and more. At the Wonderlust event, Apple also demonstrated the gaming capabilities of the iPhone 15 Pro. This means the devices can play top console games natively.

iPhone 15 Pro models will run AAA games

Portable game consoles have been gaining popularity lately. However, although some real AAA games have released smartphone versions, the situation is not the same with mobile games. This is because console and PC games are generally not available on mobile technology.

Apple’s A17 Pro processor, which powers the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, is almost as good as portable gaming consoles like the Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and more. The CPU features a six-core architecture and a 20 percent faster GPU for improved overall performance and power consumption.

Apple has also introduced hardware acceleration of ray tracing on the SoC, which is claimed to run all games at higher frame rates compared to software ray tracing. This technology also offers a realistic and immersive viewing experience in games. According to Apple, the A17 Pro offers: “Advanced mobile gaming with fast, efficient performance and hardware-accelerated ray tracing.”

The Cupertino-based technology giant announced at its annual fall event that AAA console games will be coming to iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. This is a big win, especially for mobile gamers, as the smartphones will also support third-party controllers. iPhone 15 Pro models will receive Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4 Remake and Death Stranding later this year. Assassins Creed Mirage, which will be released for PC and consoles on October 5, will also be available on smartphones early next year.

Time will tell if people will be willing to play on the iPhone 15 Pro and pay full price for big games like this.
