Big work behind the scenes at Salesforce: To further modernize the hybrid cloud infrastructure, more than 200,000 systems are being migrated to Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Last week in San Francisco was Salesforce’s Dreamforce event, the annual high mass for everyone who cares about Salesforce. The spotlight was on Einstein Copilot, the next evolution of the AI platform named after the legendary German physicist. Last week we already discussed in detail what Einstein Copilot should be able to do.

Running AI applications like Einstein Copilot requires a solid infrastructure. The company has hundreds of thousands of systems running in traditional data centers and on Hyperforce, Salesforce’s public cloud platform architecture. Salesforce’s IT teams manage this themselves as much as possible, including operating systems including CentOS 7. You can imagine this is a big task.

Behind the scenes

Salesforce is therefore deepening its partnership with Red Hat and moving its entire hybrid cloud infrastructure to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 in the coming weeks and months. This step is not only intended to relieve pressure on Salesforce’s IT teams, but also bring technological advantages to better bring together the many different systems.

A total of 200,000 systems will be transferred. It is unclear when this process will be completed, but customers should notice little to no effect on effectiveness and, in the long term, the effect should be positive on the customer experience.

Matt Hicks, CEO of Red Hat, said: “We are both pioneers and leaders in our fields. Red Hat and Salesforce have a deep understanding of what it means to continually transform and innovate for our customers. This partnership allows Salesforce to further enhance the customer experience, while Red Hat brings decades of experience in open source and hybrid cloud infrastructure.”
