US Coast Guard seized 2,417 kilograms of “illegal drugs” worth an estimated $70 million during a 55-day patrol operation in waters off the western Caribbean and eastern Pacific, the federal agency said in a statement Tuesday.

The drug was seized from the crew of the US Coast Guard cutter Thetis, which worked alongside other coast guards in support of Joint Interagency Task Force South.

The two Coast Guard interceptions are part of an operational plan to combat transnational criminal organizations and They were assisted by several Coast Guard helicopters..

During one of the interceptions, crew members of the Thetis detained three suspected drug dealers.

In another case, cooperation with a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) maritime patrol aircraft led to the discovery approximately 2,417 kilograms of illegal drugs by Thetis company.

“These cases emphasize the need for a Coast Guard presence in these regions to combat drug trafficking and highlight the operational capabilities of our platform and crew,” said Gavin Garcia, Thetis commander.

Garcia was “extremely proud of the dedication and combat accomplishments” of the crew during this patrol.
