A supercapacitor works by storing energy electrostatically, while a lithium battery stores energy as a result of a chemical reaction. So a supercapacitor can store energy very quickly and release it when needed.
In the case of cycling, this means storing energy when a person pedals or brakes, with the potential to use this energy during more complex actions such as restarting or climbing uphill.
Lelievre guaranteed that the energy stored by the electric bike after charging will be enough to climb to a height of 50 meters. This makes transport available for use in 80% of European cities.
STEE also claims that Pi-Pop bikes have a lifespan of 10 to 15 years, while bikes with lithium batteries have a lifespan of 5-6 years. The company currently produces 100 bicycles per month and plans to increase production capacity tenfold by 2024.
