Windows 11.2 is a new proof of concept that imagines what Windows 11 could have been and isn’t. Coming from designer AR 4789, creative expert in the art of ‘concepts’ who worked on several developments, including his vision for the next Windows 12, Windows Utopia.
Windows 11’s market share remains far short of expectations. Microsoft tries to enforce it in every possible way, sometimes with dark patterns that do not respect the will of users. And there is no way. The stable version of Windows 11 23H2 will be released soon, including everything that comes from Copilot, such as the integration of OpenAI technology into the operating system.
Microsoft will continue to add “artificial intelligence” and “cloud” to the system and its own applications that use them. But all this accumulates additional code, services and active applicationsat the risk of not solving one of the main problems of Windows 11: performance that is inferior to that of Windows 10, which is why many of us do not migrate our computers.
As usual with this designer, so did he pay attention to the same installationimplementing stage where the user can interact through the ability to perform tasks such as browsing the web or playing games like Minesweeper or Minecraft while the operating system is installed and configured in the background.
The concept follows the Windows Utopia line for Windows 12 with new functions in the main components, such as start menu, file explorer or the general Settings toolas well as in the user interface with the new floating main panel.
The Start menu displays icons organized into group and list views. There’s also a section for widgets, which to my taste look better as part of the Start menu (and not with the official Windows 11 design), much like Windows 10’s Live Tiles.
Concept tests are always fun because designers can let their imagination run wild without being limited to “0”s and “1s”. Windows 11.2 looks very good, but that being said, we’d like to see how it plays out in real development. And it’s not easy.
