Google Pixel 8, the new smartphones from the internet giant, is just around the corner as it will be unveiled October 4th in the planned event, where we will also see other products of our own design, such as the Pixel Watch 2 smart watch.

Like any electronic product that hits the market, there have been many leaks, and even Google “leaked” the actual image, which was briefly published on its website. Over the weekend, we received additional information (always unofficial) that confirms its main specifications, refines camera systems and pushes its availability and selling prices, they say after consulting with dealers. Let’s summarize what we know so far.

Google Pixel 8: more and better, but maybe more expensive

Official media invitations to the Oct. 4 event said Fr “Pixel device portfolio refresh”. It is likely that we will see a new smartwatch or earphones, although the focus will be on the next generation of mobile phones. As with Microsoft and its Surface, Google is not about massive sales, but rather about describing its vision of what the smartphones of the future should be and showing its many partners the integration with Android.

Google will launch the Pixel 8 – at least – two versions, standard and Pro. Both will have 6.2- and 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screens, improved in native resolution, maximum brightness and a refresh rate that will increase from the Pixel 7’s 90Hz to 120Hz.

The big internal news will be the SoC Tensioner G3. Following the path blazed by Apple, major manufacturers are designing their own chipsets for mobile phones, and Google has already started with the Tensor range. Now comes the third generation, which, in addition to improving performance and consumption, will have as its main motivation the debut of a modified AMD Radeon GPU to improve the graphics subsystem. The SoC will be complemented by up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Maybe the values ​​are higher for the Pro model.

The cameras will also be improved. Both versions will introduce a dedicated macro sensor, something that was missing from the Pixel 7 series. The Google Pixel 8 Pro will have a 48MP 5x telephoto lens (ISOCELL GM5) along with a 48MP ultra-wide camera. These sensors will be combined with an additional 50MP main sensor on both devices. The set also includes a ToF sensor and another Melexis MLX90632 infrared sensor.

In terms of camera software features, Google will include Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, Face Unblur, Night Sight, Real Tone and more to enhance the camera experience. Pixels have always taken very good photos even without the hardware features that other models had, through software and AI improvements.

Prices

All information coming in points to a $100 price increase over the Pixel 7. The latest leak cites information from retailers that indicate the base model Pixel 8 will cost 699 dollarswhile the Pro version would cost 899 dollars. Google left the middle class a long time ago and these terminals will be able to compete with anyone in the high range.
