Raspberry Pi 5 will be available in October in two versions depending on the RAM capacity and compared to the Raspberry 4 they will be significantly improved in terms of performance or connectivity.

In case you don’t know this type of product, say it’s a new version computer with a single motherboard (SBC) developed by the British foundation of the same name. In addition to increased performance, the SoC includes a new I/O chip designed by Raspberry Pi engineers: the RP1. This dedicated chip acts as a South Bridge and handles most of the data I/O, including GPIO and USB pins, reducing the load on the main processor. As a result, the Raspberry Pi 5 can work up to three times faster than the Pi 4.

Versions and prices

Support for this product is another highlight as it will be extended until 2035. The Raspberry Pi 4 will also remain in production for an unspecified amount. The foundation says they hope to produce one million units by Christmas, while maintaining production of the remaining solutions they sell.

• 8GB RAM: $80
