The global AI program is designed to help customers create more value, optimize Delaware’s internal processes and develop best practices in governance.
Delaware will approach generative AI from three perspectives: the customer, internal processes and governance. The first two are about the potential to increase efficiency and generate more value. Delaware will develop new capabilities while ecosystem partners are also making big moves. Microsoft 365 Copilot will be generally available to business customers in November, but Salesforce (Einstein Copilot, Tableau AI) and SAP (Joule) are also included.
The third part of Delaware’s AI approach is to ensure that generative AI is used for the right things. “Initially, people confused ChatGPT with a search engine, even though it is a content creation tool,” says senior manager Sven Arnauts, who is responsible for the AI program.
“To realize its full potential, we need the right framework and associated best practices. As another example, GitHub Copilot allows you to create a simple website with just a few prompts instead of using human-written code. However, we still need to optimize and quality check this code to eliminate bugs, prevent performance issues, and avoid security risks. Finding the right balance between acting quickly and minimizing risks is critical.”
AI in many industries
In addition to the technological implications of generative AI, Delaware is also studying the impact of the developments. In industries such as professional services, manufacturing, FMCG or insurance, there is great potential for using generative AI to improve existing business and revenue models (or even create new ones).
Another important goal of the program is to significantly lower the financial hurdle for organizations to experiment with genAI more easily. To make this possible, Delaware has reserved a significant portion of the project budget for setting up use cases with customers.
“In some organizations, obtaining financial resources for a use case can be challenging,” says Eric Hiernaux, managing director of Delaware International. “By providing budget, we want to ensure these organizations get a fair chance in these incredibly fast-moving and exciting times.”
