Nokia XR21 limited edition

HMD Global is the first smartphone manufacturer to start producing 5G phones in Europe. The Nokia XR21 will be the first device to roll off the assembly line in Hungary. It meets all strict European production and sustainability standards. According to HMD, the development is in line with the general growth potential for smartphones in Europe.

The analysis agency Canalys predicts that the European smartphone market will grow by 7% in 2024. Of course, HMD Global doesn’t want to miss this train. “We are pleased to be able to produce the Nokia XR21 in Europe,” said Jean-Francois Baril, co-founder, chairman and CEO of HMD Global. “We invest in safety, technology and manufacturing processes that make our devices safer and more sustainable. We want to continue investing in tailored software security in the future.”

Rigorous software and malware testing

HMD responds to the changing needs of business customers with new capabilities and processes. Each device undergoes rigorous software and malware testing in Europe. Some companies require additional security in collaboration with IT security partners. The data is stored securely in the EU. With a focus on software security and “privacy by design”, customer and company data from all HMD smartphones have been stored and processed in Finland since 2019.

The XR21 is not only well secured, but also robust and durable. With military-grade durability certification and IP69K protection, it is resistant to dust, heat, shock and water. The chassis is made from 100 percent recycled aluminum and the battery life of up to two days supports 60 percent more charges over its lifetime. Further steps in the European production process will help to further reduce emissions.

Price and availability

HMD Global is celebrating the production change with a limited edition of 30 devices sold online via nokia.com. The limited one Made in EuropeDevices (from 699 euros) have the exclusive Frosted Platinum color, are engraved with their own unique serial number and come with a certificate of origin in the box.
