There are a number of updates for Terraform and Terraform Cloud. HashiCorp announced this at its own event, HashiConf. Positive news after complaints about a reduction in the company’s open source stance.
The first update is a new testing framework to help developers create better modules, introduced in Terraform 1.6. It is written in HTML and provides the necessary tools for testing Terraform code.
To make the most of this, there is now also the option to publish modules with tests integrated into Terraform Cloud.
Jumping into something new straight away, no matter how simple it may be, takes some getting used to. That’s why HashiCorp uses generative AI to help companies quickly start testing modules in the new framework.
An LLM automatically generates a series of tailored tests via private registration. The model is specifically trained on HCL and the framework to immediately help module manufacturers with their testing.
This feature is available in the beta version of the Terraform Cloud Plus Private Enrollment.
In the Terraform Extension for Visual Studio Code you now have Advanced editor validation. This allows Terraform to validate the code as early as possible.
Then there is also stack. Enables users to automate and optimize the coordination, deployment, and cycle of Terraform configurations. Several modules can be integrated into one using components stack are organized and deployed. This allows different systems to be grouped together. Then users can reproduce these groups multiple times.
The patents for stacks are not yet fully completed.
Finally, there is the general availability of it transient workspaces for Terraform Cloud Plus and Terraform Enterprise, launched in beta in August. Allows users to set a time when assets that are no longer in use are automatically deleted.
This relieves IT teams of a tedious manual task. Not unimportantly, this system can be very cost-saving. It was first introduced during HashiDays in June.
