Skull Island: Rise of Kong went on sale today, and you probably didn’t know that, which is also very good news because it would mean you weren’t expecting it. In my case, and I already mentioned it in the guide to the main game releases this month, it gave me mixed feelings, because of course on the one hand we are talking about a title dedicated to King Kong, which for many (myself included) are big words, but on the other hand what has been progressed so far has been… let’s just say disturbing.
It is important to clarify that Skull Island: Rise of Kong It’s not triple A, rather we’re talking about double A, which means we shouldn’t be as demanding as if it were a budget game similar to the GDP of a small country. Just because we should be fair in adjusting our expectations of a startup based on the resources available to develop it doesn’t mean we should look the other way or act condescending in the face of ridicule.
Because yes, pretend charge 40 euros (€39.99 to be exact, although it’s reduced to €31.99 as an introductory offer) for the game under these conditions is, a joke, and not only because of its graphic partwhich is the first thing that catches the eye (at worst, yes), it’s also because of what we’ve been able to see of its lack of optimization (to experience frame drops with those graphics is…let’s leave it surprising) and it’s also because its mechanics, which appear to be polished with stone.

Considering the cut of Skull Island: Rise of Kong embedded in the tweet above this paragraph, I understand that you may think that an unfortunate moment was captured, but in that case you should know that His complete game has already been published on Youtube. It’s about three and a half hours long, so my recommendation is that you don’t even think about watching the whole thing. Instead, you can jump to random points to check that the disaster label isn’t overkill:
Look, we had an unfortunate launch during 2023, but the industry still seems to never tire of bringing absurdities to market. Until now, although the competition was close, everything indicated that the award for the worst game of the year (the sector is starting to need an equivalent to the Razzies, don’t you think?) should go to Lord of the Rings: Gollum, which managed to make us put the previous edition into perspective, but Now it looks like we have a tough contender for the title over Gollum with Skull Island: Rise of Kong.
We can take this with humor, especially if we weren’t tricked into pre-purchasing them before their release, but aside from the Skull Island: Rise of Kong jokes we’ll no doubt see in the coming days and weeks, the truth is that it seems we witnessing the normalization of mediocrity and lack of respect for users. And that’s something we shouldn’t allow, regardless of the jokes and so on.
