The iOS 17.1 update, expected to be released next week, doesn’t appear to fix an issue that causes some iPhone models to occasionally shut down at night, interrupting alarms, muting notifications, and otherwise hindering iPhone nighttime use.
On devices running iOS 17.1 MacRumors’ problems continue and there are ongoing reports of the issue on the MacRumors forums from both iOS 17.0.3 and iOS 17.1 users.
If your iPhone keeps popping up the password screen in the morning or the alarm isn’t ringing at the right time, you’ve probably encountered this error. In some cases, the “iPhone” restarts, but in other cases it turns off for several hours. The shutdown bug appears to affect multiple iPhone models, but most of the complaints are coming from iPhone 15 users.
You can tell if your iPhone is turned off at night by opening the Settings app, going to the Battery section, and checking the charge status for the last 24 hours. If there is a discrepancy, iPhone has been turned off for a while. There’s no word on when this issue might be resolved, and Apple has yet to comment.
