Amazon has begun rolling out passcode support to desktop web browsers and its mobile shopping app, which provides a Another layer of security for all your clients.

All major service providers promote “access keys” to comply a promised future without hateful slogans. But if there is one that is relevant, it is Amazon, the global e-commerce giant. If you’ve been following us, you know that passkeys offer a more secure and convenient alternative to passwords, allowing you to use personal identification numbers (PINs) or biometric authentication such as fingerprints or facial recognition to log in to websites and apps.

Use of Access Keys significantly reduces the risk of data leakage, as they provide protection against phishing attacks, prevent theft and unauthorized access. And it works with unique codes (WebAuthn credentials also known as FIDO credentials) linked to specific devices such as computers, tablets or smartphones. Google, Apple, Microsoft and other big tech companies have confirmed their commitment to passcodes.

How to Enable Access Keys on Amazon

“While passwords will still be available for the foreseeable future, this is an exciting step in the right direction.”Dave Treadwell, Amazon’s senior vice president of e-commerce, explained in the announcement. “We are delighted to be the first adopter of this new authentication method that helps realize our vision safer internet without passwords«.

Amazon has provided some quick instructions for users who want to activate this feature. Currently, this process can be done in a desktop web browser or the Amazon iOS app. Android compatibility coming soon.

To activate the function:

  • Open the Amazon website using your browser.
  • Select your account.
  • Select Login and Security.
  • Under Passwords, click Configure.

Once you set the passcode, you can use it Sign in to your Amazon account on any supported device or browser. As the update has just started rolling out, the feature may not be available on all platforms at the time of writing, but should be rolling out over the next few days.

For the mobile version, users are advised to verify that they are using the latest version of the Amazon app, as the latest update includes the passkey feature. Let’s say that the password feature on Amazon is optional and you can still use the password method to make purchases and access Amazon services if you want.
