Not a day goes by without news in the world of AI. This time it’s Google’s turn, which is expected to invest $2 billion in Anthropic. The American company is a competitor to OpenAI, which is backed by Microsoft.
The news of the planned investment was reported by CNBC. However, Anthropic will not receive the capital injection all at once. A first tranche of 500 million has definitely been fixed, with the rest of the investment following in the near future. In April, Google had already transferred 300 million to Anthropic’s account.
Earlier this year, Anthropic was valued at $4.1 billion, according to CNBC. In addition to Google, Salesforce and Zoom have also already invested in the AI company. Last month, Amazon also joined in the financial fun with an investment of four billion.
Anthropic is the company behind the AI model Claude 2. This chatbot is intended to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT models. For example, Claude 2 can handle 75,000 words, compared to ChatGPT’s three thousand.
Nevertheless, the company is still very young, even by AI standards. Anthropic was founded in 2021 by Dario and Daniela Amodei, brother and sister. The two previously worked at OpenAI. The company is now on its way to becoming an important player in the field of AI. In April, the company was just one of four companies invited to a meeting on AI at the White House.
