Even if those who read me regularly don’t believe it, the truth is that I’ve been wanting to say good things about Twitter for a long time.. And that’s because I know I’m projecting an image of utter contempt for the social network and its owner, even though the truth is that even though I believe that Musk has made many questionable decisions and that it could end up being a social network that was a pioneer at the time and today remains the most influential in the public sphere.

I am now aware that I only give negative messages it might look like i’m trying to find negative news about it and that I have therefore completely lost objectivity and I want to make it clear that this is not the case. Another thing is that Twitter gives me problems when it comes to reporting positive news about a service that unfortunately (and I say this as a user of the social network for 15 years) is deteriorating in practically every aspect.

If you’re not a Twitter user, you probably wouldn’t know the “Community Notes” feature that launched last December (already in Musk’s time) and this allows users of the social network to add context to publications in a controlled way. What does it mean? Users can add information to messages that refutes what was posted in them. This is undoubtedly a sensational feature in the fight against misinformation.

On the other hand, and in an effort to increase the number of Twitter Blue subscribers, the social network has been allowing verified users to monetize their publications on it for some time. This, unfortunately, caused fake news and spam to proliferate. Clickbait and other dubious techniques are very much the order of the day as they have allowed verified users to enhance the monetization of their content, which is detrimental to the quality of the content.

However, as we can read on Engadget, Twitter will stop paying for posts that have community notesin a movement that, yes, we can interpret as targeting lower-paying creators, but that should undoubtedly translate into less fake news, misinformation and trash being posted on the social network now that said content will no longer be monetized thanks to this measure.

Since his arrival on Twitter, Elon Musk has stated that a number of measures taken were aimed at this goal, although it is true that in the vast majority of cases the motivations were different. However, both with the community comments and now using them to demonetize garbage, my pulse is shaking as I type we are facing success.
