WhatsApp plans to add passcode support to its iPhone app, according to code discovered by software researcher @aaronp613 in the latest beta version of the app.
Passcode support will allow iPhone users to sign in to WhatsApp using Face ID, Touch ID, or the device’s passcode. Access keys are stored in iCloud Keychain. To use toggles on iPhone, the device must be updated to iOS 16 or later.
“Access keys are more secure than passwords because they are uniquely generated for each account by your own device and are less vulnerable to phishing,” Apple says. “And they work on all your devices where you’re signed in with the same Apple ID.”
It’s unknown when WhatsApp plans to make this feature public, but it started rolling out toggle support for Android earlier this month. Last week, many applications, including Amazon, began implementing access key support.
