SpaceX announces Starship is ready to fly into orbit in mid-November

On Friday, a message appeared on SpaceX’s website stating that the company is fully prepared to make a second attempt to launch its Starship rocket to orbital altitude. The first unsuccessful launch took place on April 20 of this year. Since then the company has improved the rocket and the launch table and is more convinced of success. It remains to get permission from ecologists, and there are chances for this.

Officially, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has four months to grant permission to launch Starship. Worst case, SpaceX will get it by March 2024. However, this may happen much sooner. At least representatives of this regulator gave assurances that they did not intend to use the full time allowed for the issuance of the permit.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), another space launch regulator, had cleared the Starship launch last week. Management evaluated the safety of the launch in terms of threats to customers’ lives and most property and deemed it met standards.

As reported by the SpaceX company, numerous changes were made to the rocket and launch table, taking into account the unsuccessful launch experience. The main ones were the transition to hot disconnection of the rocket and booster (starting the ship’s engines before disconnecting the booster), a new thrust control system of the booster engines, as well as a steel plate on the launch table and a water flame extinguishing system. system.

The regulator responsible for launch safety has approved all the changes and is no longer blocking the launch of Starship. Assessment of the threat to endangered animal species is ongoing at the time of launch. Massive work has been done in this direction before, and it seems unlikely that we will go down this path again. Therefore, it is possible that the second attempt to launch Starship to orbital altitude will occur soon. For example, about ten days later.
