The Japanese government plans to allocate about 1.9 trillion yen (about $12.6 billion) to the development of semiconductor manufacturing.

This was reported by NHK, according to Ukrinform’s report.

The government will allocate about $5 billion to support mass production of advanced semiconductors, the Japanese agency has learned. This is believed to help Taiwan’s TSMC, which is exploring the possibility of setting up its second factory in Japan in the southwestern prefecture of Kumamoto.

Another $4.2 billion is expected to go to support companies such as Rapidus, which aims to produce advanced semiconductors in Japan.

Approximately $3.8 billion will be spent on supporting a stable supply of semiconductors.

As reported by Ukrinform, Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) and Japanese financial group SBI Holdings have selected a location for the construction of an ¥800 billion (US$5.3 billion) chip manufacturing facility in northern Japan.
