According to internal sources, Amazon has its own operating system that is almost ready for Fire TV and other devices. This new development, known internally as Vega, could start being distributed next year as an alternative to the AOSP-based software that Amazon devices currently have.

According to the source, Amazon has been working on this solution for years and has been in talks with chip manufacturers since 2018. Efforts to terminate the operating system left little evidence of its existence.

Recently, alleged Amazon employees wrote on an anonymous forum that they were building a site. Rival operating system of iOS and Android “for all IoT devices.”

In the same forum it is explained that “most of the development of the operating system has already been done” and efforts are now focused on improving the SDK (developer kit).

Last year, job offers were opened at Amazon and it was stated that they were working on “a new generation operating system for Smart Home, automotive and other Amazon Devices product groups.”

Regarding the implementation of Vega, it is expected to arrive in Fire TV products, as well as tablets (which use a fork of Android under the name Fire OS) and Echo Show products. Although the offering has held its own from the beginning with an Amazon app store, being based on Android has allowed Amazon to ensure that compatible apps don’t require too much effort.

According to the information obtained, the new operating system, It will not be Android based. A React-based system with its own application ecosystem is expected, as manufacturers like Vivo do.
