Threads users will now be able to delete their accounts in the application without deleting their Instagram accounts.

It is stated that Threads users have been demanding the introduction of this new feature for a long time, as many users are disappointed about not being able to delete their Threads profiles without losing their Instagram accounts.

The update comes shortly after Meta introduced another setting change that allows Threads users to prevent their posts from being promoted in the main Instagram and Facebook feeds.

Despite the change, Instagram and Threads are still very closely related. An Instagram account is required to join Threads, and the only messaging functionality in the app is via your Instagram inbox.

While it’s unlikely Meta will completely separate the two social networks, there’s reason to hope that Threads will eventually become “more independent.”
