Telenet is rolling out AI to its 5G networks in collaboration with Ericsson. This leads to higher availability and lower energy consumption.

In the latest Open Signal study, Telenet was named the best 5G network in Belgium in terms of availability and quality. Telenet is now revealing its secret in a press release. Together with Ericsson, Telenet’s infrastructure partner since 2017, the provider developed an AI system to ensure high availability.

The network operating system consists of two layers. The basis is the Ericsson Operation Engine. Everyone’s favorite AI technology is then used to proactively optimize the network. Implementing more than 110 automation rules results in a 16 percent reduction in incidents, according to Telenet. This results in a network availability of 99.91 percent.

Adding AI to the network has additional benefits. AI must ensure greater energy efficiency and additional energy savings.

We are pleased that the fruitful collaboration between Telenet and Ericsson will result in a leading 5G network in Belgium. We are aiming for a coverage rate of more than 65 percent by the end of this year,” says Telenet CTO Luk Bruynseels.
