Broadcom

Broadcom wastes no time and immediately begins restructuring VMware. Although the plans are still early, they already show the direction the company wants to go with its latest acquisition.

Yesterday the saga surrounding Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware reached its climax. After receiving approval from China, the deal was finally completed. A day later, several offices around the world were decorated with Broadcom logos, making it clear that the company does not want to take a wait-and-see attitude. Internally, VMware is being restructured into four divisions:

  • VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)
  • Tanzu (TNZ)
  • Software Defined Edge (SDE)
  • Application Networking and Security (ANS)

The divisions will be led by VMware managers who previously held similar positions. The division fits with Broadcom’s strategy, in which a product group is usually linked to a business area.

End-User Computing

Things remain quiet about one product group: Broadcom is apparently not planning to set up a department around end-user computing for the time being. It is therefore not clear to what extent VDI and VMware Anywhere Workspace have a place in the new strategy. The focus seems to be on large hybrid cloud infrastructures.

This is consistent with Broadcom’s strategy, which typically prefers to focus on large customers and high margins. That’s why it’s a positive surprise. That the Senior Community Manager of the vExpert program remains on board. It appears that Broadcom correctly assesses the value of the VMware community.
