One in four respondents has problems with the WiFi connection at home every month.
While the research on household Wi-Fi performance has a lot to offer at the time of Devolo’s announcement, that doesn’t change the fact that it still contains interesting numbers. Therefore, some results should be viewed with caution, even though the company surveyed thousands of respondents.
Belgian households have high-speed internet connections. More than 50 percent of those surveyed surf the Internet at speeds of 250 Mbit/s or more. On the other hand, there is a lot of living space in Belgium. One in two (55%) of the participants lives in houses with more than 100 square meters, two thirds (68%) live in single-family homes. This impacts WiFi performance.
30 percent of Belgian participants say that they rarely have problems with their own WiFi. 26 percent have monthly problems. These results are less positive compared to other countries, where the majority of Wi-Fi interruptions rarely occur. In the Netherlands, for example, only 63 percent of participants are occasionally disturbed.
Who can hear it?
What is striking is that 45 percent of participants contact the manufacturer’s customer service – the highest percentage in an international comparison. The majority of respondents from other countries would prefer to solve this problem themselves. In Belgium, 36 percent do this themselves, while 29 percent ask friends and family for help.
The most common methods they have tried to solve the problems themselves include replacing the router (37%), running network cables (22.6%) or installing repeaters (17.8%).
The worst WiFi reception is often in the bedroom (36.5%) and the living room (26.2%). Connection problems are primarily found when surfing (47.1%), using social media (42.1%) and streaming videos (36.5%).
