The director of the World Health Organization expressed concern about suspected hospital raid Kamal Advan Gasy after several days of siege and stated that the center must be protected..
In a post on social media X, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said: “I am extremely concerned by reports of a raid on the Kamal Adwan hospital in the Gaza Strip after several days of siege.”
“WHO urgently calls for the protection of all people in hospital. “WHO also calls for an immediate ceasefire and sustainable humanitarian access to health facilities throughout the Gaza Strip,” he wrote.
Tedros noted that the hospital, located in northern Gaza, an area largely deprived of humanitarian aid since the conflict began in October, was functioning minimally even before the blockade due to shortages of water, fuel and supplies.
Citing the local health ministry, Tedros said there were 65 patients in the hospital, including several requiring intensive care, and 45 medical staff.
Earlier on Tuesday, WHO said that only 11 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals were functioning partially, one in the north and 10 in the south of the enclave.
