Global 5G speeds are increasing, but user satisfaction is declining because expectations are not being met.
A global study by Ookla on the well-known Speedtest application shows that fixed and mobile internet speeds have increased. Both download and upload speeds are increasing, although the latter is happening to a limited extent within 5G.
Belgium, the Netherlands or Luxembourg are not among the ten best performing countries. When it comes to fixed-line internet, France ranks tenth with an average download speed of 170.51 Mbit/s. This means it is doing 53 percent better than a year ago. The upload speed also increased by 41 percent compared to the previous year.
The growth in France is mainly due to the explosive growth of fiber optic connections. Fiber optics are expected to be available across the country by 2025.
5G performance worldwide
Year over year, 5G speeds worldwide have increased by 20 percent, from an average of 168.27 Mbit/s to 203.04 Mbit/s. The upload speed barely changes (1%) from 18.71 Mbit/s to 18.93 Mbit/s. The countries with the fastest mobile internet are the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Malaysia, Qatar and Brazil
Users are more satisfied with their 5G connection than with 4G, but satisfaction with 5G is decreasing more each year. According to Ookla, this is due to the need for new use cases to make the most of 5G. Streaming video did this for 4G, but there is none for 5G yet Killer app.
Fixed Internet worldwide
If you look at the quality of landline internet connections, you will notice the sharp increase in upload speeds worldwide. This increases by 28 percent from 29.95 Mbit/s to 38.32 Mbit/s. The download speed also increases significantly by 19 percent from 70.30 Mbit/s to 83.95 Mbit/s.
The countries that perform best globally are the United Arab Emirates, Singapore and Hong Kong.
