Former US President and current candidate for the White House. Donald Trumpaccused his successor, a Democrat, on Tuesday. Joe Bidenthat he is a “threat to democracy” after a state court disqualified him from the Colorado primary.
“It’s no wonder that corrupt Joe Biden and the far-left crazies are desperate to stop us by any means necessary,” Trump said during a campaign rally in Waterloo, Iowa.
He later added.
They are willing to violate the US Constitution at a level never seen before in order to win this election. Joe Biden is a threat to democracy, he is a threat.
The Colorado Supreme Court on Tuesday kicked Trump out of the state’s Republican primary for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, finding the former president participated in an “insurrection.”
In a decision unprecedented in American history, the justices turned to 14th Amendment to the Constitutionwhich prohibits people who took part in the uprising from holding elected office.
This amendment was approved in 1868, after the American Civil War, to prevent people associated with the Southern Confederate rebels from coming to power.
Trump presidential campaign spokesman Stephen Cheung announced that they will appeal the Colorado decision to the US Supreme Court:
We have every confidence that the Supreme Court will quickly rule in our favor and put an end to these un-American lawsuits.
The Colorado Supreme Court delayed its own decision until Jan. 4 to allow for possible appeals, which would put the final decision on the trial in the hands of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Six of the high court’s nine members are considered conservative, three of whom were appointed by Trump himself during his term.
Republican primaries begin on January 15 next year. Iowa caucuses and Trump is the favorite in all polls to face the current president, a Democrat, once again Joe Bidenin the November White House elections.
Colorado’s presidential primary will be held on March 5, on what is known as Super Tuesday, a key date on which 16 states will vote and which could determine the course of the race.
