California-based startup Overair has introduced Butterfly, a prototype of its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) air taxi.

As reported by Ukrinform, New Atlas reported this.

The company plans for the commercial version of the Butterfly to carry a pilot and four passengers.

In addition, the electric aerotaxi will be able to reach a maximum speed of 322 km per hour and have a battery range of up to 161 km.

It is stated that one of the key features that distinguishes Butterfly from other eVTOLs is the large size of the rotors, each more than six meters wide. They should produce more thrust per kilowatt of power than other designs with smaller rotors.

Flight testing is expected to begin early next year at the company’s test site in Victorville, California.

“The assembly of our first full prototype vehicle marks the culmination of many years of industry experience, careful development planning, innovative design and the hard work of the entire Overair team,” said CEO Ben Tigner.

Overair’s parent company, Karem Aircraft, has been involved in a number of US military vertical lift projects since its inception in 2004.

As Ukrinform reported, the company Archer Aviation successfully carried out the first flight of its prototype air taxi with vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) at midnight.
