Kioxia breaks the world record with a microSDXC card with a capacity of 2TB. The Exceria Plus G2 is currently rolling off the production line.
Kioxia launches a microSDXC card with the world’s highest capacity. The tiny thing offers space for 2 TB of data. To get so much capacity in such a small space, Kioxia had to develop its own 3D flash technology: BiCS Flash. The memory card is named Exceria Plus G2.
The card’s read and write speeds are comparable to those of a slow hard drive. Reading can be done sequentially at 100 MB/s and writing at 90 MB/s. That’s more than fast enough for the card’s purpose: it has a U3 rating and is capable of supporting 4K video recording. Please note: This microSD card is certainly not the fastest of its kind. For example, Samsung’s Pro Plus cards achieve a read speed of 180 MB/s.
The Exceria Plus G2 is aimed at videographers. Kioxia says the capacity allows for 41 hours of 1080p video to be recorded on a single card. This allows professionals to record an entire job on a memory card. The memory cards are currently in mass production and will go on sale starting next quarter.
