Archaeologists discovered a bottle that is over 7,000 years old during excavations in the Peiligan parking lot in Xinjiang, Henan, China. The find is currently considered the oldest find ever made in China.
A preliminary estimate showed that the dishes were made at least 7,700 years ago, Li Yongqiang, a junior researcher at the Institute of Archeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was quoted as saying by Chinese news agency Xinhua. Further analysis will clarify the dating.
The artifact is a bottle of an unusual shape with a small neck and pointed tip, its length is just over 10 centimeters. Archaeologists noted that the size of the find is much smaller than previously found bottles from the Yangshao culture period, which arose in the middle part of the Yellow River about 5,000-7,000 years ago.
Perhaps such vessels were used to collect water or ferment yeast during brewing.
