Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said that the SU7 sedan is a long-awaited model equipped with “super electric motor” technology that can provide higher acceleration speeds than Tesla and Porsche electric cars.

The electric car is expected to go on sale within a few months.

“With hard work in the next 15 to 20 years, we will become one of the world’s top five automakers and strive to revive China’s auto industry as a whole,” Lei Jun said.

SU7 will be produced in two versions, with a range of up to 668 km and a range of up to 800 km on a single charge. For comparison, Tesla’s Model S has a range of up to 400 miles.

The cost of the electric car has not been announced yet. According to Ley, this figure will be “a little high indeed, but a figure that everyone will think is justified.”

The cars will be produced by a division of state-owned automaker BAIC Group at a facility in Beijing with an annual capacity of 200,000 cars.

Xiaomi has pledged to invest $10 billion in cars over a decade and is one of several new players in China’s electric car market.

According to Ukrinform, electronics giant Toshiba and leading microchip manufacturer Rohm announced that they will jointly produce materials called “power semiconductors” used in electric vehicles.
