American company Tesla, one of the world’s leading electric car manufacturers, reported that it produced approximately 950,000 cars in its Chinese factory in Shanghai; This figure constitutes more than half of the 1.8 million electric cars produced in 2023.
This was reported by Xinhua, citing the company’s data, as reported by Ukrinform.
It is stated that the Tesla gigafactory in Shanghai, the first factory outside the United States, increased production by a third last year compared to 2022 and produced 947 thousand cars (almost 2,600 units per day), which is more than half. More than 1.8 million electric vehicles produced by the company in 2023.
Of these, almost two-thirds of electric cars, or more than 600,000, were sold in the Chinese market.
The company stated that this result was achieved thanks to the ability to produce a car in less than 40 seconds; This was made possible after more than 95% of the production of Tesla components and assemblies used in the Shanghai factory were localized in China.
Tesla Gigafactory Shanghai management noted that the automobile factory in Shanghai has become Tesla’s main export center worldwide.
Tesla has been increasing its investment in Shanghai in recent years. At the end of December last year, the company officially launched a project to build a mega factory for car battery production that can produce 10,000 batteries per year.
Production at this facility is planned to start in the fourth quarter of next year.
As reported by Ukrinform, Chinese company BYD announced that it broke a record in electric car sales; This brings him one step closer to replacing Elon Musk as the world’s largest electric car maker, Tesla.
