Filipino company SP New Energy Corp has started the implementation of the world’s largest solar energy production project, where more than 5 million solar panels will be installed

Filipino company SP New Energy Corp has started the implementation of the world’s largest solar energy production project, where more than 5 million solar panels will be installed on an area of 3.5 thousand hectares.

This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to Philippine publication Philstar.

“SP New Energy Corp. (SPNEC) has begun construction of the Terra Solar project in Nueva Ecija and Bulacan, billed as the world’s largest solar energy project. SPNEC said it has begun clearing the site, which will eventually cover an area of 2000 m2. Approx. 3,500 hectares,” the message says.

The first phase of the project is planned to be completed in the first quarter of 2026.

“To meet these deadlines, SPNEC said it is accelerating site clearance efforts to begin construction of facilities to connect the project to the national grid and install more than five million solar panels,” the statement said. The statement was included.

The Terra Solar project is said to consist of 3,500 megawatts of solar panels and 4,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of storage battery. Terra Solar is expected to produce more than 5 billion kilowatt hours per year, approximately 5% of the total Philippine power grid and 12% of total electricity demand.

As noted in the release, the project will be larger than India’s Bhadla Solar Park and China’s Golmud Park, which are currently the world’s largest solar power plants with a capacity of more than 2.2 gigawatts (GW). According to the latest data from the Philippine Department of Energy, the total capacity of all grid-connected solar projects operating in the country will exceed 1.5 GW in 2023.

As Ukrinform reported, in December 2023, the country’s largest floating solar power plant (SPP) with a capacity of 650 MW was put into operation in eastern China.
