The third-generation “Origin Wukong” superconducting quantum computer started working in China on Saturday.

As reported by Ukrinform, CGTN reports on this issue.

A qubit (quantum bit) is a two-level quantum mechanical system; for example, the polarization of a single photon, which can be vertical or horizontal.

This quantum computer is equipped with a 72-qubit superconducting quantum chip called “Wukong chip”, which is currently the most advanced quantum computer applicable in China.

There are a total of 198 qubits on the chip, including 72 qubits and 126 connectors.

Guo Guoping, head of the third-generation superconducting quantum computer research group, said that although China has made some progress in this field, it is clear that there is still a significant gap in quantum computing compared with the world’s leading players.

It was noted that the first and second generation “Origin Wukong” have already been delivered to users in China.

As Ukrinform reports, the new European supercomputer MareNostrum 5, unveiled in Spain on December 21, will have a speed of 314 petaflops, meaning it will perform 314 trillion operations per second, and will be among the ten most powerful supercomputers in the world.
