AMD introduces the Radeon RX 7600 XT. The new graphics card is slightly faster than the previously introduced version without “XT” in the name, but is particularly notable for doubling the graphics memory.

AMD is introducing the Radeon RX 7600 XT at CES. This is a variant of the Radeon RX 7600: a relatively entry-level GPU that is tailored to gamers but also (semi-)professional users. The XT version brings some important upgrades. For starters, AMD is giving the card a speed boost: the base clock is 2.47 GHz, with a peak of up to 2.76 GHz (compared to 2.25 GHz and 2.66 GHz on the regular RX 7600).

More important is the doubling of graphics memory from 8 GB to 16 GB GDDR6. This is useful not only for gamers, but also for professionals who rely on graphics memory for ML workloads or 3D models. The upgrade actually has an effect: the TDP of the AMD Radeon RX 7600 increases from 165 watts to 190 watts.

Also relevant for professionals

AMD is targeting the GPU specifically at graphics professionals and AI developers. Thanks to the additional memory, this card supports SDXL and Llama 13B. For video editing with Adobe Premiere Pro, the GPU opens the doors to 8K projects, whereas the original RX 7600 couldn’t go beyond 6K. The DaVinci Resolve Pugetbench benchmark conducted by AMD suggests that the RX 7600 XT delivers a speed boost of a factor of 1.3.

AMD positions the card above the Radeon RX 7600 and just below the Radeon RX 7700 XT (with 12 GB of GDDR6 memory). AMD has not yet announced a recommended retail price, even though the GPU should be available from January 24th. As a point of reference: an RX 7600 is available today for just under 300 euros (including VAT), for an RX 7700 XT you pay around 500 euros. Expect a price somewhere in between.
