In the middle of last year, Huawei launched the P60 Pro. The Chinese company’s new flagship came with a great camera, a top-of-the-line display and a slightly outdated SoC. This was the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, at a time when the industry was already installing the magnificent Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the premium segment.

It was also a 4G version of the SoC as they could not access 5G technology due to North American sanctions. According to leaks and latest rumors, Huawei P70 wants to come back on its own with its own Kirin chip and 5G connectivity. Like? Thanks to Huawei’s latest allies in China.

A Huawei P70 that will go with everything, thanks to Kirin 9010

Mate 60 Pro gave a boost to the mobile industry in China. This not only represents the comeback of Huawei, which managed to knock out iPhone 15 sales at the Asian giant, but also stunned the world (and primarily the USA) with its technology.

With the sanctions, the US thought it would take time for Huawei to have two things: 7-nanometer chips and chips with 5G modems. They believed they didn’t have the technology, but thanks to both SMIC and its partners creating 5G modems, Mate 60 Pro’s Kirin 9000S crowns Huawei’s rebirth. At least in the ‘circuits’ domain of course.

It’s true that it’s less powerful than the latest SoCs from Qualcomm or MediaTek, but it represents the first test for the company’s new line of processors. Absolutely, and as we read on Huawei Central, Huawei P70 will pack a new SoC called Kirin 9010.

This name is not new, as the chip brand was registered in April 2021, but it seems to have fallen fallow due to all the restrictions. However, ‘leaker’ SmartPikachu revealed the first information about this new processor on Weibo.

Surprisingly though. The tipster guarantees that it will be produced with 3 nanometer lithography And that’s something we’ll have to wait and see. Obviously we will know about the Huawei P70 in a few months, but it is not yet known whether Huawei will finally manage to assemble a 3-nanometer chip.

This is because very advanced machines are needed to produce such chips, and the USA is trying in every possible way to prevent them from falling into Chinese hands. New vetoes prevent ASML, the dominant company in machines for producing semiconductors, from selling these advanced machines to Chinese companies, and these companies are forced to make do with ‘old’ tools.

Of course, China’s plan is to use and push these machines to go even further than their original purpose, creating 3-nanometer chips and even smaller and more complex photolithography. This is a very complex process and, above all, it seems very inefficient. This would mean misusing each wafer of silicon to create the chip.

It will be exciting to follow the Huawei P70 news to see if they finally get the 3-nanometer SoC, but what seems certain is that it will have 5G connectivity like the Mate 60 Pro or Mate X5. Whatever it is, we will tell you in Xataka Android.

Now, as we always say, until there is an official confirmation from Huawei, This information should be considered hearsay..
