Sony has announced plans to increase production of the PlayStation 5. The announcement comes when supply chain issues subside. That’s not the end of the good news: The company has also announced plans to expand its portfolio of games for the PS5.

Despite the PS5 console being released in November 2020, the Japanese tech giant is struggling in production due to global chip shortages and other supply issues. However, the company plans to reduce the workload by the third year and even surpass the PS4 install base by next year. Also, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan said, “We plan to significantly increase console production, which will take us to production levels we’ve never been able to reach before.”

This news comes despite the COVID-19 blockade in China, but “everything is definitely improving,” the leader said. The brand also predicts PS5 sales will reach 18 million units by the end of the fiscal year, compared to 11.5 million units a year earlier. It is noteworthy that Sony has moved away from focusing only on games specific to its platform.

It will now work with a large number of games for PC and mobile devices, and even offer games with online services, which will make up almost half of all new games by 2025. “There will be many individual players who choose to enjoy the games the way they have been playing them for the past 30 years or more,” the source said.
